Principal's Message - From Mrs. Lori Waugh

Dear PJ Parents, Guardians, and Students,

At PJ, we are very excited to welcome back all students and families, and also our families who are joining us this year.  The school looks fantastic, both inside and outside and we are ready for building our 2018-19 community and offering the best possible learning environment for our students.  Staff have been busy preparing their rooms, curriculum, and co-curricular activities.  The first weeks will be largely focussed on building relationships within and beyond the classroom and establishing important routines.  I am sure that you will be hearing specifics regarding your child(ren)'s specific classroom routines directly from their teachers.  If you haven't already obtained classroom organization information, the lists are posted on the front door windows of the school by student OEN numbers.  JK and new students should have also received communication about their class placements.  If you are unsure, all teachers will be outside on Tuesday morning by 8:25 with signs and class lists.  The entry bell is at 8:40 a.m. There will also be additional staff on the blacktop with master lists if you require assistance.  School ends at 3:00 and all students not attending the YMCA before and after school care program will be dismissed through the rear doors.  Kindie procedures for dismissal have been communicated with parents.

If your child arrives late to school, they will need to sign in at the office if they enter after "Oh Canada" has begun at approximately 8:50 a.m.  If you need to pick your child up before dismissal, please report to the office to sign your child out and they will be called down.  We do have a safety protocol not to have parents enter the student areas without permission.

I would like to thank our custodial staff (Don Fitzpatrick and Alan Burrows) for their hard work cleaning the school over the summer.  It truly looks fantastic.  You would never know we are 50 years old!!  In addition, I would like to thank our office staff, Sandy Lemmon and Laurie Andrews for doing such a great job organizing all materials and preparing us for an efficient administrative environment.

I will communicate with all families every Friday with a "Friday Blog" that will recap the highlights from the previous week and provide a heads up about upcoming events.  If you have questions or concerns, I am always available to you and can be reached by email (waughl@hdsb.ca) or by telephone at the school (905-632-2492).  My philosophy is to maintain open and respectful communication at all times.

For any of you who have popped by the school since August 31st, you will know that our blacktop and Kindie pen areas have been newly paved and painted with many wonderful games and curricular activities.  Deep appreciation is extended to our School Council and all families for providing a significant contribution toward having the Kindie pen paved and for funds to provide some new equipment for our youngest learners.  We are always so grateful for the work and support of our parents.  Please do consider taking part in the School Council.  It is a great way to build connections with your school, learn more about activities and initiatives, and make lasting friendships.  The first council meeting will take place on Monday, September 10th at 6:30 p.m.  Meetings are generally held on the first Monday of the month from 6:30-8:00 p.m.  I am attaching a nomination form for anyone who is interested in joining as a member.  If you wish to just attend, you are more than welcome!  With council, the more participants, the better!

Several forms will be sent home with your child on Tuesday.  Please review and return promptly to the office.  Thank you.

I do look forward to meeting everyone on Tuesday and/or any time you would like to speak with me.  Enjoy the long weekend, and I will see you at school!
